Food Spices Your tastes and preference may vary but these may make for a good start.
salt & pepper The bare minimum.
crushed red pepper For a little heat.
garlic powder One Allium variety.
onion powder Another Allium variety.
steak seasoning Salt, pepper and spice combination.
Food Ingredients You can exclude or supplant a few of these.
all-purpose flour Use for bread rolls, pancakes and to make gravy. Can use all-purpose flour with baking powder below for leavening, as opposed to yeast, or use self-rising flour.
sugar Sweets for the sweet. White, raw, brown, your choice.
powdered milk Use for drinking, add to flour-based recipes, or add to sauces for some creaminess.
baking powder Leavening agent for non-yeast based items like biscuits, pancakes and quick bread.
yeast Use to leaven rolls and bread.
vinegar For a little bit of sourness when wanted. Can be used along with doubling acting baking soda as the acid that activates it. Also a good cleaner and mild disinfectant.
instant coffee Go juice, or tea if you prefer.
cocoa Sweet drink. Also good in baked goods, or to make a chocolate sauce.
pasta Also, consider elbows and ramen noodles.
rice A staple used on its own or as a soup extender. Either plain or flavored.
oatmeal A hearty breakfast dish or snack. Can also be used in baked goods and other recipes. Either plain or instant.
potato flakes Good on their own for mashed potatoes. Can also be used in baked goods, or as a thickener for soups. Either plain or flavored.
cornstarch A flavorless thickener alternative to flour. Can also be used as body powder, or even as a dry (waterless) hair shampoo.
cooking oil For your frying and baking needs.
egg powder Prepared alone or added to baked goods.
Food Packaged You can buy some of these dehydrated or freeze-dried to save space and weight.
tomatoes Canned, whole or in chunks. You can always break them apart more. Putting them back together is harder. Either plain or spicy.
sweet peas Sweet green vegetable. Good on their own, in soups, or in mashed potatoes.
sweet corn Sweet yellow vegetable. Good on their own, in soups, or in mashed potatoes.
beans Red, white, black, your choice. Good on their own or in other recipes.
peanut butter A high-calorie staple used for a snack or as part of another recipe.
honey A high-calorie staple used for a snack or as part of another recipe.
